Pak Uning Laut sends me a video of sunset from the beachfront, panning 360º around him. I freezeframe it on the wooden structure on the sand and send it back -
apa ni, what’s this?
An invocation. He replies - kayu bakau untuk rumah ikan, I’ll send it to the sea tomorrow. In the middle of this it begins, nine months of circling rumah ikan from a distance. Before I can ask more, the last set of rumah ikan for the year disappears into the sea. An impatience, a looming monsoon. The landas is strong so I make the bakau structure strong. We wait and see what survives.
